As Year 6 is now the final year of primary school there will be some exciting and busy times ahead. It will be a fun-filled, and some times chaotic, year full of hard work and many activities. The Year 6s can look forward to camp, interschool sports and lightning carnivals, graduation, end of year fun day and many more activities and special events. Toward the end of the year students will participate in many activities to prepare them for high school. We hope to see parents at all the events.

For all information regarding the transition to high school please visit the Transition page.

Clubs Program - Students in Years 4 to 6 participate in a clubs program every Friday afternoon between 1.50pm and 2.40pm. The aim of the clubs program is to provide an opportunity for students to develop team work, communication skills and self-esteem. There are a variety of clubs available to students and a small fee of $10 per year helps to provide consumables and other equipment that may be needed. Please send the money to the classroom teacher as soon as possible.

iPad Program for Year 6 students
The iPad progam started in 2015 when the children were in Year 3. We have choosen Year 3 as this year level represents smaller class numbers before moving into middle schooling. As the children enter Year 4, the learning will be extended and children will have the opportunity to learn from a wider range of sources, explore a wider range of technologies and show deeper reflection on their learning and goal alignment. The children will use the selected device for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. A list of reccomended apps is included for parent information.
Please see this short video on the importance of an iPad program.

A parent agreement must be signed so that student iPads can be added to the school network. Please return to school as soon as possible.

For purchase options of iPads please visit out iPad information page.

Graduation is scheduled for Tuesday 12th December 2017 at 9am in the Undercover Area. The normal process is that a formal Graduation ceremony is held at the school in the morning at 9am which family members are invited to attend. At this ceremony, students will receive their Graduation Certificate and their Semester Two Report. A morning tea is held after this event at approximately 103am, kindly caterred for by the P&C. That evening, at 6pm, students are invited to attend a Dinner Dance. This is generally held in the Undercover Area. Students have a meal and a DJ supplies the music for them to dance to. This is a student’s only event. Staff will be in attendance to supervise. Students will be invited to this event and the invitation is dependent upon appropriate behaviour, attendance and work completion in class.

The theme for the dinner dance will be decided by the students. This year's theme will be announced in Term 4. It is not intended for students to get too dressed up but a smart casual dress standard should be followed. We have spoken to the students about suitable attire. Students will be invited to this event and the invitation is dependent upon appropriate behaviour, attendance and work completion in class. The cost for the evening is $25 per student. Cash to the front office only which is payable in Term 4. (Please do not use the school bank details)
Year 6 Dinner Dance money is given directly to the P&C who cater for the event.

A Graduation Keepsake is available for purchase by parents. Order forms will be sent home in September/October.

Children are free to choose to participate in this activity and to make it easier for parents, Miss Blackwell (Room 23) is coordinating the purchase of a Memory Ball (soccer or football) or Memory Bear. They are high quality and come with a special pen enabling children to commemorate your children’s primary school education.

The bear is $18 and the balls are $13.20. Please fill in the eform and pay in Term 4.

Room 23 -  Miss Genevieve Blackwell

About the teacher -
Welcome to Year 6 and to Room 23! I trust that you have all had a restful and fun filled holiday.

My name is Genevieve Blackwell. I am thrilled to be starting my fourth year here at O'Connor Primary School and I am looking forward to an excellent year ahead. I really enjoy living in Kalgoorlie. I enjoy being active, playing hockey and netball, and I even participated in my first triathlon last year. I am getting used to being pulled along by my Kelpie puppy while on walks and she loves running circles around her two brothers.

I am very excited to be teaching Year 6 this year again and to be a part of all the extra events that accompany the last year of primary school. I want students to feel comfortable in themselves to achieve their greatest as well as to set up important daily routines, ready for their next adventure in high school. I have high expectations of my class in all areas including behaviour, work and participation. I encourage a healthy environment at school and welcome your child to bring in a 'Crunch & Sip' snack to munch on during the day. We will also partake in daily fitness, making drink bottles and hats important items to bring to school each and every day.

I look forward to meeting you throughout the year. You are always welcome to stop by the classroom for a quick chat in the afternoons. If you would like a more in depth chat it is best to contact the school or myself to organise a meeting. Parent/teacher meetings can be arranged by phoning or emailing the school to make an appointment.

Room 19 - Mr Luke Scuderi Year 5/6

About the teacher -
My name is Luke Scuderi and I am a Year 5/6 teacher in Room 19 for 2017. I have been at O’Connor Primary School since Term 3 2016 teaching a Year 5 class.
In my spare time I enjoy painting, reading, playing soccer and going to the movies.
This year I look forward to teaching your children and supporting you in their growth. In my classroom I like to take a positive approach to learning where everyone has an equal opportunity to learn, and extend their capabilities. This year will be a busy year which will all be explained during the parent information night on Tuesday of week two this term.

In Year 5/6 this year there is a 1-1 iPad program. Therefore there will be a focus on the use of  iPads and technology in class this year in order to utilise such a valuable resource.

I look forward to meeting you on the first day of school or throughout the year. If at any time you have any questions my classroom door is open before and after school for a quick chat or feel free to create an appointment by email or through the office.

Room 24 - Miss Catherine Della-Bona

About the teacher -

Hello and welcome to Year 6 in Room 24. I am Miss Della-Bona (Miss Della). I had a brilliant time in 2016 teaching the year 5/6 class and I am very excited to be teaching year 6’s this year. I enjoy sports, especially AFL and taking my puppies to the park and for jogs in the evening. I hope parents and students are ready for the 2017 school year as there are lots of exciting times ahead! As we will be participating in daily fitness as well as recess and lunch times, it is important each student brings a sun smart hat and a water bottle. I also encourage a healthy snack for crunch and sip to have through the day.

Year 6 will be a year full of excitement with lots of big events such as camp and graduation. I am sure we will have a fantastic year in Room 24 making sure to enjoy the last year of primary school. I look forward to meeting you. Feel free to pop by the classroom if you would like to have a chat, after school is always best as I can give you more time. If you would like to organise a more in-depth chat about your child then contacting the school to make an appointment is welcomed.
