Rocket Day originally started in 2019 as a Science Week activity linked to the theme of space. The success of the first Rocket Day has led to it becoming an annual event. Rocket day and the build up to the event engages all students in scientific thinking and has been implemented to nurture the love of science.
Students from Year One to Year Six and the Education Support Centre are involved in the design and construction of paper rockets. During the construction stage younger classes often team up with older classes in a mentor system. Each class tests their rockets to decide on which three rockets will be launched on Rocket Day, discussing what makes a “fair test”. During Rocket Day each year group competes to decide which rocket will represent them in the finals.
