The focus of the occasion is to promote inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all of our students and families. Traditionally, students are encouraged to wear orange on the day to signify meaningful communication and the freedom of ideas. At OPS we support cultural diversity and recognise that it is one of our greatest strengths, which makes this a great place to go to school. Harmony Day provides opportunities for students to participate in some fun activities around the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. • Ms Cyndi Payne

School Chaplain Ms Cyndi Payne I am here to focus on the well-being of students, parents and teachers. School Chaplains are helping make a real difference in people's lives. I provide support and care for staff, students and families. I am here to walk alongside you. I am here to listen to you and the things that concern you. I believe that when students are heard and their problems addressed (no matter how small or insignificant we think it might be) they behave and perform better in class. I will be with you when words fail and all you can do is cry & I will rejoice with you when you are happy again. I am here to encourage you and help you set goals. It's my hope to see you achieve the goals you set. I am here to help you find solutions and be with you as you seek meaning, purpose and hope on the journey of life. How do you get in touch with me? If you see me around the school, please do not hesitate to come and say hello to me. If you would like to have a private chat with me, you can: tell me in person; tell your teacher; or you can also write your name and room number (contact number for parents) on the self-referral slips located at the front office. The week is a great opportunity for the students to participate in a range of activities and to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. NAIDOC Week at O’Connor Primary School often involves parent volunteers, visitors from local organisations and agencies, as well as hands-on experiences that provide an insight into cultural traditions.
