Positive Behaviour Support Key Principles O’Connor Primary School has the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) expectations embedded in our culture. Our school FAIR values of Friendship, Achievement, Inclusion and Respect are clearly communicated and underpin everything we do and every conversation. Life-Long Skills PBS is an evidence based, whole school approach to behaviour management. School behaviour expectations are clearly defined and taught. Positive behaviour is rewarded and celebrated. Cultural Studies Cultural Standards Framework At O’Connor Primary School our staff have reviewed and reflected on the Cultural Standards Framework released by the Department of Education. Lessons have been created by teachers across the school and it is expected that one lesson per week addresses these cultural standards. We are very fortunate to have two Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers on our staff who are available to share their knowledge and skills to assist staff, students and families. The O'Connor Primary School Reconciliation Action Plan RAP With the ongoing help of staff, parents, community members and students, O'Connor Primary School has created a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The focus of the occasion is to promote inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all of our students and families. Traditionally, students are encouraged to wear orange on the day to signify meaningful communication and the freedom of ideas. At OPS we support cultural diversity and recognise that it is one of our greatest strengths, which makes this a great place to go to school. Harmony Day provides opportunities for students to participate in some fun activities around the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. Early Childhood National Quality Standard School staff use the National Quality Standard to optimise development and learning in Kindergarten to Year 2. A continuous reflection and improvement cycle is embedded to reflect on practices, identify strengths, identify areas for improvement and monitor progress. STEM STEM is an integrated approach of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics used by educators at O’Connor Primary School to teach 21st Century skills. These skills include collaboration, innovation, critical thinking, flexibility, data interpretation and creativity. In an increasingly technological and complex world, it is important to develop knowledge and skills using an integrated STEM approach to analyse and creatively respond to design and/or digital challenges.
